Farming on a Rooftop

In urban areas like New York City, it’s easy for people to become disconnected from the production of the food they eat each day.

Enter, then, Brooklyn Grange, which farms over two and a half acres of rooftops in Brooklyn and Queens. They use a special soil mixture is used to minimize weight on the roofs and allow rapid drainage during heavy downpours and have even incorporated chickens and bees into their urban farming experiment.
